Washington DC patio sketches

I spent time at an art meetup with a few wonderful artists at Dacha Beer Garden in Washington DC. Not only was it one of my favorite combinations of art and beer but it allowed me to introduce myself to a few other creatives in town. 🥰

I would absolutely check these amazing people out…
Riley Fanning - writer, illustrator, satire
Julie Gelb - artist and enthusiast about everything in life/art (it’s contagious in the best way)
Tryn Donovan - spray paint and mural artist

These are just three of the wonderful people I met but this town is already proving itself to be warm, accepting and exciting.

These sketches were an attempt to capture the feel and energy of Dacha Beer Garden. This garden bar was full of people dressed to the nines in perfect outfits for the beginning of summer. I used my Stillman & Birn Delta sketchpad and while I love this sketchbook, I have found it works best with a few washes instead of saturating the paper. The character sketch of the server is most successful in my opinion because it is not as overworked.

Ultimately it was a fabulous day and I can’t wait for the next time!
